Dr. Guy Shpak completed his B.Sc in cellular biology at the department of biology in the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology), in Haifa, Israel. During his studies he discovered the marvelous world of neuroscience which become his main research topic. Throughout his M.Sc. and Ph.D. he focused on how olfactory systems in the rodent’s brain codes social information (as mediated by pheromones). Later, as a postdoc researcher in the psychiatry department of the Erasmus medical center, he investigated the biological base of mental disorders by looking into the physiological properties of patients-derived human neurons. As a part of a large group of researchers, they developed different protocols for growing functional human neurons from patient’s cells through a stem cells-like stage known as induced Pluripotent stem cells.
Side by side to his scientific career, martial arts are an inseparable part of his life for more than 30 years now. His way in the world of martial arts started at primary school and continue to these days, as a student and a teacher of different arts.
