The RASL Summer Studio 2022 is a ten-day transdisciplinary workshop about re-imaging tomorrow’s water climate through the arts and sciences.

For this studio, we collaborate with the Rotterdam’s Municipality Water Programme, which will design a brief for the participants of the Summer Studio that questions future scenarios for sustaining life in a Delta city situated some six meters below sea level. At the end of the ten-day session, participants will present the concepts, research, practices, and prototypes to the societal partners and mentors.

About the mentors and partners

Participants will be mentored by: guest artists Lotte van den Berg and Bas Kortmann, and RASL faculty members Dr Robin van den Akker (Erasmus University Rotterdam), Arlon Luijten (Codarts), and Dr Vivian Sky Rehberg (WdKA). The three social partners of this studio are: MARIN , Blue21 and Rotterdams Weerwoord.

The Summer Studio welcomes artists, academics, scientists, designers, societal partners and people who would like to explore new research methods and develop collaborative practices that cross the boundaries between the arts and sciences. We immerse ourselves in practice-led workshops, field research, feedback sessions, excursions, collective dreaming, making and sharing.

We understand that some participants need to schedule around their jobs and kin. There is some flexibility from Monday 11th July to Thursday 14th July. Please indicate in your application whether you are able to attend full-time or not.

How to register

Applicants should have a Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant field, be entering their final year of their bachelor programme, or have equivalent professional experience and backgrounds in the performing and visual arts, the sciences, humanities, or technology studies.

Would you like to take part in our Summer Studio? Please submit a written or audio-visual motivation and your CV (including website or portfolio links) to Marco Aperti [aperti@euc.eur.nl]The application deadline is June 20.
