On 2 November EUC hosted a celebration for the opening of the new Reading Without Borders book collection donated by the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet. The books are a collection fictional literature from all over the world that have been translated into English, and is built by and for the students as requests to add to the collection are encouraged.

The art of translation: interview with Michele Hutchison

At the event we had the pleasure to hear from our dean Gabriele Jacobs, who commemorated the new collection by discussing and recommending one of the books (We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie). Additionally we had guest speaker Michele Hutchison, renowned translator and Booker prize winner speak, as well as get interviewed by Berrie Vugts about her work and literature. The event was closed by a poetry reading from our very own published student author Cindy Steward who read from her book “Memoria of a Heart”.

Following the event was an open reception where students and teachers got to relax, eat, and explore the new collection,  while enjoying the live music played by Sebastiaan West dual degree student and musician.

Read more about the event on Erasmus Magazine and check out the collection at the EUC library (an EUR library card is necessary).
