Prof. Jeroen Jansz appointed as Academic Director CLI

The Executive Board has appointed Prof. Jeroen Jansz as Academic Director of the Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) as of 1 September 2019. Jansz was already closely involved in establishing and developing the network organisation, which started in 2017 and focuses on improving and innovating education.

The CLI creates connection, shares knowledge, and stimulates and facilitates educational innovation. Lecturers and the Learning Innovation teams of all EUR Schools can use the Education Lab and receive demand-driven and customised professional training and support consistent with their own innovative projects. The CLI also supports students in establishing their own projects to enrich their education. Together with Prof. Eric Waarts and Prof. Guus Smeets, Jansz has been a leading member of the CLI steering group since the very beginning.

Strategic programme

The CLI will be continuing from September as strategic programme within Erasmus University’s Strategy 2024. This EUR strategy is the leading policy framework, in particular because of the first three quality agenda educational themes: 1) Personal and professional development of students, 2) Investing in innovative capacity and teaching careers and 3) Investing in personal learning through online facilities. The CLI is also associated with the digitisation master plan for the components related to the above-mentioned themes. It also offers financial space for educational research and provides substantial broadening and strengthening of the current Erasmus Education Research.

Appointment of Academic Director

Rector Magnificus Prof. Rutger Engels entrusts this ambitious agenda to Jansz so that he can determine, together with the Schools, what is needed regarding training, support and facilities in order to achieve future-oriented education. Jansz is committed to intensive collaboration with the programme directors and the Learning Innovation teams. Structural coalitions will also be formed for themes such as professional development of lecturers, educational innovation, digitisation and educational research so that Schools can play a leading role in this. A plan will be produced within the programme period for the long-term embedding of CLI, prior to the end of 2023.
