VCC student challenge

Besides our own research into inclusive, diverse, smart, resilient, sustainable and just cities, education is an important part of Vital Cities and Citizens. We want to offer students the opportunity to share their work with the outside world. Because so many beautiful papers or theses are written within the educational programmes that touch on the core of VCC.

Feel inspired and want your paper, thesis or research findings to be published in the form of a blog or vlog on our website and other channels? Then sign up below!

  • An interesting blog is concrete and offers, for example, recommendations for the municipality or other parties, or interesting insights about the city (with a link to one or more of our four VCC themes)

  • Use between 1200 and 1800 words when writing the item

  • Write a catchy intro of around 90 words

  • Remember that this should be stimulating for the reader, so start with, for example, a question or proposition and make sure the reader can see at a glance what your article is about

  • Headings are important for readability and scannability, so don’t be afraid to use them! Headings should be descriptive, so readers directly know what they are about to read.

  • Include a horizontal photo (without text or logos), which will be displayed below the intro

  • Don’t be afraid to use photo’s, visuals, infographics, etc.

  • It can be written in English or Dutch

  • Examples of a good blog:

Would you like to make a vlog that will be published on our VCC website and socials? That's possible! Keep in mind: an interesting vlog is concrete and offers, for example, recommendations for the municipality or other parties, or interesting insights about the city (with a link to one or more of our four VCC themes). If you are interested, please send us an email and we will discuss the possibilities and send you the guidelines.

The blogs with the most relevant and interesting insights for VCC can be published as a news item. When you submit your text, we will immediately check whether the item is eligible for this.

Once a year, we look at all items and the best item wins the annual VCC student prize!
