Biography
Carolina Dalla Chiesa (1987) is an Assistant Professor of Cultural Economics and Organizations at the Department of Arts and Culture (ESHCC/EUR). Her research focus lies on the transformations of cultural markets post-digitalization. She favors the interplay of cultural economics, institutional economics, and economic sociology as theoretical perspectives.
Carolina holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Economics (2021 - Erasmus University Rotterdam), an MSc. in Cultural Anthropology *cum laude* (2017 - UFRGS), and an MSc in Management and Organization Studies (2014 - UFRGS). She completed her Bachelor's studies in Business and Economics (2011), also in Porto Alegre, Brazil (UFRGS). After her doctoral studies, Carolina worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Culture and Sociology Department at Leuphana University (Lueneburg, Germany) with a focus on digitally-based organizations.
Main interests: Funding for the Arts; Digitalization; Cultural Markets; Independent Creators and Emerging Organizational Formats; Social Studies of Markets; Cultural Economics.
Carolina was awarded the Best Ph.D. Thesis Prize (2021) by the Erasmus Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Humanities. She was also awarded two prizes in Organization Studies conferences (2013 and 2014 - EnANPAd, Brazil). As a bachelor's student, Carolina was granted an Honorable Mention (2007) for her early participation in research projects at the Business School (EA/UFRGS).
Carolina worked as a Lecturer in the Business School (UFRGS, Porto Alegre, Brazil), teaching courses such as Sociology of Organizations and Introduction to Management.
Additionally, Carolina worked as a Project Manager and Junior Researcher at the Creative Economy Observatory (OBEC), a project in partnership with the Ministry of Culture from Brazil (2014-2017). She has also participated in local research projects and consultancy for cultural organizations both as a volunteer and independent consultant.
