At ISS, she participates of the research programs - Development Economics (DEC) and Civic Innovation (CI) and is also part of the GOLLs project, Governance of Labour and Logistics for Sustainability, coordinated by Dr Lee Pegler.

Fiorella has been developing analysis and research studies for the past 15 years, since she started as a young analyst encouraged by a state program, PIBIC of CNPq - Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development.  She graduated in Economic Sciences in 2006 at UFSC - Federal University of Santa Catarina, where she also achieved a Master´s in Regional and Urban Development in 2008.

In 2011 she moved to Brasilia, Brazil´s Federal Capital, where she started working at The Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socio-Economic Studies (DIEESE), an institution that is dedicated to research, advice and training and whose main areas are social and economic development, work and employment, remuneration, inequality and living conditions of the Brazilian population.  At DIEESE she assessed the National Port Federation and got to understand in depth the Brazilian port sector.

The proposal of her study at ISS/UnB is to analyze in what way ports could be a mechanism for improving local development in Brazil, from a critical perspective, and how it could be further stimulated (or not) by the new relationship with the Rotterdam Authority in several Brazilian Ports. The main question that moves her research is to discuss in what extent mega-constructions can be a vector for local development.
