(Jasmin) JA Seijbel, MSC MA

Biography

Jasmin Seijbel is a PhD candidate at the Erasmus School of History Culture and Communication (Department of History). Jasmin is researching football-related antisemitic discourse(s) in on- and offline spaces. Her research also involves educational programmes initiated to prevent discrimination and antisemitism in football stadiums. In this project she collaborates with major stakeholders in the field, including the Fancoach project of Feyenoord and the Anne Frank House. Feyenoord invites penalised supporters to develop knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust through an educational programme. Jasmin researches Feyenoord’s educational programme; it’s opportunities and limitations. She investigates which histories are told and the intended and unintended short- and long-term effects of the programme. Her supervisors are Prof. dr. Gijsbert Oonk, Prof. dr. Jacco van Sterkenburg and Prof. dr. Maria Grever. Jasmin holds a Master’s degree in Global History and International Relations from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands and a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies from KU Leuven, Belgium. For her Anthropology master thesis, she conducted fieldwork in South-West Uganda in order to understand the social, cultural and political development accompanying rural to urban migration.
