dr. (Lieselot) L.C.J. Bisschop

As Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology, I teach the Organized Crime and Corporate & White Collar Crime course in the Master Programme and the Minor Criminology "The twilight zone between legal and illegal". I also advise students about their master thesis research. My areas of interest and expertise include green criminology, state corporate crime, environmental harm, environmental crime, corporate crime, organised crime, environmental governance and policing. Past and ongoing studies have focused on smuggling and dumping of hazardous waste (e-waste), timber trafficking, rhino poaching, shipbreaking by beaching, coastal land loss due to oil extraction, regulation of the oil sands and fraud in green energy. The difficult balance between economic, environmental and social considerations and between governmental, corporate and civil society governance is what continues to intrigue me and inspires my research. I am also an assistant editor of the European Journal of Policing Studies. I previously worked as a postdoctoral fellow of the Research Fund Flanders at Ghent University (Belgium) (2015-2017), as an Assistant Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (New York, USA) (2014-2015) and as a researcher at Ghent University (2007-2013).
