dr. RO (Roel Otto) Lutkenhaus

Biography

Roel Lutkenhaus (1985) is an academic researcher and liaison officer at the Erasmus Movez Lab, a research team with a shared interest in young people, digital media and well-being. His research focuses on mapping societal undercurrents in digital media networks and connecting organizations with content creators from salient (internet) cultures to co-create inclusive media interventions.

Before he made the move to academia, Roel worked for 10+ years as a media strategist and data analyst on the interface of journalism, IT and marketing. He holds a bachelor’s in Applied Arts and Technology (Saxion University of Applied Science, 2007) and Master’s in Communication Studies (University of Twente, 2011). In October 2020, Roel successfully defended his dissertation (Cum Laude), entitled ‘Entertainment-Education in the New Media Landscape: Stimulating creative engagement in online communities for social and behavioral change’.

In 2020, Roel founded New Momentum – a start-up in the South of Rotterdam that develops digital research methods to create (public) media campaigns in collaboration with participatory audiences.
