Biography
Sven Hogervorst is an external PhD candidate at the Erasmus School of Philosophy. Alongside his doctoral research, he works as a consultant at Rvdb, where he advises organizations on the development of human-centered people strategies that contribute to employee wellbeing, engagement, and sustainable organizational performance.
His doctoral research is situated at the intersection of philosophy, business ethics, and strategic human resource management and focuses on the conceptual foundations of human-centered organizations. Drawing on traditions such as (eco)humanistic management, neo-Aristotelian ethics, philosophy of work, philosophical anthropology, and comparative philosophy, his project investigates how work and organizational practices can contribute to human flourishing while respecting broader social and ecological boundaries.
The central aim of his research is to develop a normative and conceptual framework for human-centered organizing, clarifying what it means for organizations to promote meaningful work, human dignity and flourishing, and sustainable value creation for both businesses and society. By combining philosophical analysis with insights from organizational theory and HRM, the project seeks to bridge the gap between philosophy, ethical theory, and managerial practice.
A distinctive feature of his research is its strong connection to practice. Through his role at Rvdb, he actively translates philosophical and ethical insights into concrete HR strategies and organizational interventions, while simultaneously using empirical and practical insights to inform and refine his theoretical work. In this way, his research contributes both to academic debates on work, ethics, and organizations, and to societal discussions on the future of work and the role of organizations in fostering human and planetary flourishing.
