Art @ EUR

De muurschildering Twisting Thriving Topographies van Hadassah Emmerich

At Erasmus University Rotterdam, art can be found in many places and take many different forms. An Arts and Culture Map has been created, including some 50 works. On the university walls, EUR's art collection may be admired, among which many graphic prints may be found - screen prints, linocuts and lithographs as well as photographs. The department of Art Affairs frequently organises exhibitions in the Erasmus Gallery near the auditorium. Art on Loan enables employees to lend works of art for their working space. There is also a collection of medals and academic heritage.

The collection is growing

On the initiative of Prof. Piet Sanders (1912–2012), Erasmus University Rotterdam began collecting contemporary prints by national and international artists in 1963. Since 2000, the university has not only been acquiring prints, but has also expanded its policy to include art forms such as photography, paintings and installations.

Over fifty years of collecting has resulted in a rich collection of about 2.000 works of art, representing many art movements from various periods. The collection has not been assembled haphazardly but is determined on the advice of the EUR Art Committee. This committee is composed of students, staff and external advisers.
