On Wednesday 19 October, Erasmus School of Economics Alumni Affairs welcomed our alumni back to our university. Apart from being alumni of Erasmus University, the gentlemen are also alumni of the fraternity RSC/Walhalla, as they are members of the year clubs Bachanten and Kamelen from the year 1965.

The day kicked off with a tour of Erasmus University by Charles Hermans, the alumni director of the economic faculty. The tour consisted of multiple buildings and the campus park. Some of the highlights of the tour were the office desk of Jan Tinbergen in the E-building, the plate with names of our alumni benefactors of the fountain project in 2013 lustrum and the EUR's medal collection. Also, the image of Erasmus which hangs over the entrance to the Auditorium or Aula can be found here, in the shape of a medal.

After the tour, Casper de Vries, Professor of Monetary Economics and Professor of Finance, provided a monetary economy lecture on the noble compensation society. Casper G. de Vries holds the Witteveen Chair of Monetary Economics at Erasmus School of Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam. Casper is a fellow of the Tinbergen Institute and serves as a member of the Scientific Council for the Dutch Government.

The lecture shed light on current compensation policies, micro and macro-level information problems and unsecured budgets. Professor de Vries explained the bank runs model of the Nobel Prize winners of economics 2022, Diamond and Dybvig. The lecture also addressed the energy price cap, high inflation and the ECB's Transmission Protection Instrument (TPI). Since the topic focused on a contemporary economic debate, the audience had plenty of questions, resulting in a truly interactive lecture. We would like to thank Professor de Vries for the fascinating lecture.

The day ended with a few beers at Café In de Smitse, Erasmus University's famous student bar. Our alumni were kind enough to contribute to the Erasmus Trust Fund. With this contribution, the Erasmus School of Economics Fund enables amongst others education to disadvantaged young persons to develop themselves into leaders of the future generation.

The Erasmus School of Economics Alumni Affairs hopes to welcome more alumni back to campus soon.
