Erasmus School of Economics proudly announces the publication of the 2026 edition of Backbone Magazine. How do you design a business that solves problems? What can you learn from an international exchange? What makes consumers subscribe to a video game service? This year’s issue offers a rich blend of research, alumni achievements, student stories, and a celebration of life in Rotterdam.
The magazine highlights the lives of students at Erasmus School of Economics. International student Laila shares her experience of making Rotterdam her home, while another student reflects on studying at Erasmus School of Economics and the lessons learned from an international exchange. These stories illustrate the personal and academic experiences behind studying economics and econometrics in Rotterdam.
Alongside student life, a central theme of Backbone Magazine 2026 is the way economic research helps explain developments in society and everyday life. The magazine highlights research ranging from international financial markets to healthcare, taxation, and consumer behaviour.
This year’s issue also looks beyond the classroom. In the alumni section, graduates reflect on their careers, choices, and the impact they hope to make. It explores the journey from studying economics to working at the intersection of research, policy, and technology.
