Being happy at work is not a self-evident matter for everyone, but the question is whether happiness at work is so important? According to Ruut Veenhoven, professor at Erasmus School of Economics and a researcher at Erasmus Happiness Research Organization, being happy in general is more important than just being happy at work. ‘Being Happy is a pleasure for humans, for their general life satisfaction. Happiness at work is only about job satisfaction,’ says Veenhoven.

Research shows that overall satisfaction increases the productivity even more. ‘If you feel comfortable, things go better, you are more creative and often more social. You open up.’ According to Veenhoven this is especially important for jobs that require a lot of independence, creativity and sociability.
