Changes ahead for Economics and Business Economics Majors 2018-2019!

Majors Erasmus School of Economics

Are you planning on following a major in Economics and Business Economics next academic year? Then start thinking about your preferences and be aware of important changes. From next academic year onwards, the majors will have a stricter format and registration at the start of block 2 is required.

Currently, you can choose your preferred seminar and corresponding courses separately, which then together form a major. The bachelor thesis is not necessarily tied to the major.

From academic year 2018-2019 onwards, you will have to choose and register for a major and one of the corresponding seminars at the start of block 2. Seminars are exclusively offered for one major. Some majors have a fixed programme, while others offer some choice in terms of eligible electives. The bachelor thesis is also part of the major and hence your topic needs to be related to it.

With this new set-up the aim is to ensure that all students gain a deep understanding and knowledge of the area in which they want to specialize. Furthermore, as all students now choose a major, this will facilitate communication about the major and on how to write a bachelor thesis within that major. Community formation of students within the same major will also be much easier.

The following majors will be offered:

  • Financial Accounting
  • Management Accounting
  • Financial Economics
  • Marketing
  • Behavioural & Health Economics
  • Economics of Markets and Organisations
  • Industrial Dynamics and Strategy
  • International Economics
  • Policy Economics
  • Urban, Port and Transport Economics

More information about these majors will follow soon, so you can make a well-informed choice. We will keep you updated!
