Elbert Dijkgraaf, Professor of Empirical Economics of the public sector at Erasmus School of Economics, is one of the two experts to lead the next round of Cabinet formation talks. Elbert Dijkgraaf, together with Richard van Zwol were nominated by PVV leader Geert Wilders.

Dijkgraaf, a former parliamentarian for the conservative Christian party SGP, is a professor of economics at Erasmus School of Economics. In his recent work Dijkgraaf has focused on how connections with foreign labour and international markets can help resolve the ongoing labour shortages in the Netherlands. He also examines different attributes to circular economies, and government handling of waste management and the environment. At Erasmus School of Economics, he also coordinates the master specialisation Economics of Sustainability. In this programme, students get a broad understanding of the complexity of all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as how current and new economic policies support achieving these goals.

In the Netherlands, the political parties PVV, VVD, NSC en BBB talk on forming a “programme-based cabinet” in which they try to reach a deal on the main things they want to achieve.
