ESB Top 40 Economists ranks Erasmus University Rotterdam first

Economische Statistische Berichten

To publish articles in an international, scientific and peer reviewed journal is what is important for researchers affiliated to a university. Traditionally, in December, ESB (Economisch Statistische Berichten / Economic Statistical Reports) does not publish an economic analysis but a ranking of Dutch economists who have published the best in such journals over the past five years. This year, nine Rotterdam based economists have made it to the Top 40 Economists list.

A special mention goes to Olivier Marie, Endowed Professor of Labour Economics at Erasmus School of Economics. With his two publications in 2017 - one in the Review of Economic Studies and the other in the Journal of Political Economy - the labour market economist, with a focus on the economics of crime, obtained the 23rd place. Other professors affiliated with Erasmus School of Economics in the Top 40 are Han Bleichrodt (9t place, highest ranked behavioural economist), Jan van Ours (11th), Dick van Dijk (20th), Patrick Verwijmeren (24th), Peter Wakker (29th) and Dinand Webbink (40th).

If we look at the institution where the most Top Economists work, Erasmus University Rotterdam shares the first place together with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. When all employees of the institution are considered however, Erasmus University Rotterdam is ranked as the best institution of the year 2018.
