How numbers can compel, charm and mislead us

Erasmus School of Economics

Having obtained a master in Econometrics and a PhD in wellbeing and development, Sanne Blauw, alumna of Erasmus School of Economics, calls herself a 'number nerd'. Sanne is fascinated by bad statistics in the news and number fetishim.

As a journalist of the online platform De Correspondent, Sanne writes about these topics weekly. Her motto is to put numbers back where they belong, because numbers can compel, charm and mislead us. In order to warn the public at large to not blindly trust all the numbers served up to us, Sanne has written a book, 'The best-selling book of all time (with this title)’ , which will be released on 30 October. Sanne believes that numbers can be as misleading as words and that the public should be aware of that fact.
