Hundreds of pupils take part in lesson series during Erasmus Junior College

On 7 October 2025, the Woudestein campus of Erasmus University Rotterdam was buzzing with curiosity and talent. During a special series of lessons organised by the Erasmus Junior College, hundreds of primary school pupils from advanced classes immersed themselves in the world of real scientific research.

The day began on a festive note with a warm welcome from Professor Philip Hans Franses of Erasmus School of Economics, who appeared in full academic gown for the occasion. Under the guidance of specially trained student teachers, the children then got to work as young researchers themselves.

In the ‘Economics’ module, pupils learned how to design and market their own product. Using the marketing mix (price, place, product and promotion) they discovered the importance of identifying a clear target audience. During an interactive quiz, they discussed the difference between price and value, and determined the worth of each other’s self-created products.

Finally, the pupils were introduced to the basics of statistics. They organised their research data into clear bar charts and presented their findings to the class, just like real scientists!
