Insights from Alumnus Adriaan de Mol van Otterloo

Alumnus Adriaan de Mol van Otterloo is among the most accomplished equity investors in London and thus belongs to the select group of Dutchmen at the top of London City. For many years, he ranked high in the UK's top equity investors' rankings with the self-founded Intrinsic Value Investors.

In a recent interview with the Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad, Mol van Otterloo expresses his dissatisfaction with Dutch corporate culture, particularly the lack of criticism of the established corporate order.

Regarding the City's perspective on the Netherlands and the loss of the headquarters of Shell, Unilever and DSM, and the recent struggles of Philips, de Mol van Otterloo comments: 'We have slipped as a country. The Netherlands has drifted because corporate executives do not value alternative views.'

About a year ago, he liquidated the Intrinsic Value Investors fund - with total assets under management of $2.5bn - and returned the money to his clients on the grounds that there were simply no more shares that matched the fund's investment criteria.
