As part of the International Economics course in Bachelor-2 the British ambassador Peter Wilson CMG, gave an interesting guest lecture on Wednesday 18 October 2017. Wilson, who took up the post of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands in August this year, was invited by the professors Julian Emami Namini and Maarten Bosker of Erasmus School of Economics.
Not surprisingly the Brexit was the main subject, both in the ambassador’s speech and the numerous subsequent questions of students. Wilson said trade relationships between Great Britain and the Netherlands will not ‘necessarily’ suffer after Brexit: ‘The Netherlands is our most important trading partner after Germany and the United States. It is in both our interests to keep that relationship intact.’ EU negotiators say that before trade negotiations can begin the UK must accept the EU’s analysis of what it will owe on leaving in March 2019. According to Peter Wilson the UK will pay its share of its EU contribution.
As a token of appreciation Peter Wilson was presented the School’s sweater which surprisingly he put on immediately after his lecture.
