‘It is most interesting to know what is said in the corridors’

Erasmus School of Economics

Mary Pieterse-Bloem, Endowed Professor of Financial Markets at Erasmus School of Economics and Global Head Fixed Income in the Global Investment Center of Private Bank of ABN AMRO, was a guest at BNR Nieuwsradio’s Beleggerspanel on 20 August 2019. Among other things, the upcoming IPO of WeWork was discussed, and also the meeting of central bankers in Jackson Hole.

Regarding the meeting in Jackson Hole, Pieterse-Bloem thinks that it is most interesting to know what is said in the corridors. ‘In addition, the concerns that the central bankers will express will be interesting.’ Pieterse-Bloem expects that the low inflation will certainly be a topic. ‘Since this is still an objective, and a very large number of central banks are not going to achieve it. So, therefore it will be a very high priority. Furthermore, I think that the economy and the prospects for the economy, with trade conflicts and another number of uncertainties such as Brexit, will also be discussed. Then, of course, the fact that they are already very much involved in monetary policy, particularly in the bond market, and what else they can do to boost a buffer for the economy and inflation.’
