Margaretha Buurman leaves Erasmus School of Economics
Current Head of the Dean’s Office Dr Margaretha Buurman, leaves Erasmus School of Economics. On 1 January 2018 Dr Margaretha Buurman will start as Director of Operations in the Faculty of Social Sciences at VU University Amsterdam.
Margaretha Buurman, who started her PhD research in 2007 at Erasmus School of Economics, succeeded Sascha Krijger in 2012 as head of HRM/Management & Policy, currently head of the Dean’s Office. With a proud feeling she looks back over the past 10 years: ‘With great pleasure I have been working at Erasmus School of Economics and I am very grateful for the opportunities the School and especially Dean Prof. Philip Hans Franses has given me to develop both as a researcher and later as a manager.’ Buurman continues: ‘I look forward to utilizing my knowledge and experience in my new role as Director of Operations in the Faculty of Social Sciences at VU University of Amsterdam.’

Margaretha Buurman (1972) graduated as an economist at the University of Amsterdam in 1996. After that, she worked as a policy maker at the Ministry of Social Affairs and as a researcher/policy advisor in multiple institutions. In October 2007, she started her dissertation at Erasmus School of Economics on the motivation and self-selection of bureaucrats. After a successful defense of her dissertation in January 2011, she held the position of Deputy Director of SEOR, a research agency that operates under the umbrella of Erasmus University Rotterdam. In 2012, she succeeded Sascha Krijger as Head of the Dean’s Office at Erasmus School of Economics.
