On Saturday 27 September, Master student Linn van Aanholt and her fellow rowers of the women’s eight have become world champions with a commanding victory. The Dutch boat took the lead right from the start in Shanghai and never gave it up. Olympic champions Romania finished second, almost three seconds behind, while Great Britain claimed bronze.
For the first time in three years, the Netherlands competed at the World Championships in the women’s eight in Shanghai, and never before had they won the world title in this discipline. Besides Linn van Aanholt, who is completing her master's specialisation Economics of Sustainability, the crew consisted of Tinka Offereins, Ymkje Clevering, Ilse Kolkman, Hermijntje Drenth, Vera Sneijders, Lisanne van der Lelij, Nika Vos, and cox Dieuwke Fetter.
Earlier this year, during the European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Linn won the gold medal in the women's coxless four.
