Erasmus University Rotterdam has selected Patrick Verwijmeren (endowed Professor of Corporate Finance at Erasmus School of Economics) as one of the first twelve excellent researchers a new network of young talented researchers called Young Erasmus by analogy with The Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
Patrick Verwijmeren, appointed as endowed Professor at Erasmus School of Economics in December 2012, is a highly talented researcher who has published in leading academic finance journals such as Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.
The aim of Young Erasmus is to encourage contact and interdisciplinary cooperation among these researchers who may be invited to sit on juries for prizes and subsidies or participate in the so called Wetenschapsknooppunt, a science learning hub for children in primary schools. Ultimately Young Erasmus will comprise a group of twenty five who will be members for five years.
Selection criteria
The selection criteria for Young Erasmus are the same as those for The Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) with the additional conditions that the candidates who become members were awarded their doctorate less than ten years previously and have an appointment at Erasmus University Rotterdam. The jury’s selection takes place on the basis of specific criteria such as fascination and passion for scientific academic research, willingness to play an active part in Young Erasmus and with interesting ideas about how this can be done, and enthusiasm for subjects such as science policy, science and society and interdisciplinary cooperation.
The selection committee endeavours to compose a list of nominees that is equally representative of the humanities, sciences and social science disciplines and of the sexes.
