Philip Hans Franses Scholarship supports outstanding international student

On Tuesday September 2, 2025, a pleasant meeting took place at Erasmus School of Economics between the recipient of the Philip Hans Franses Scholarship, student Rama Kirana (BSc2), and the person after whom the scholarship is named, Prof. Philip Hans Franses.

Rama Kirana is granted the scholarship, based on outstanding study results and a strong drive to improve himself and to help others improve too. This unique scholarship entails that for the duration of the bachelor studies, Rama Kirana, who is from Indonesia, receives a waiver of the tuition fee, meaning that he will only have to pay the low statutory fee.

Rama, who started in the BSc2 programme (double Bachelor Econometrics and Economics) earlier this week is excited: ‘I now can contribute to the inclusive, dynamic, and top-ranking academic community of Erasmus School of Economics.

As a token of appreciation, the scholarship is named after Emeritus Dean Philip Hans Franses, who dedicated 12 years of his career to leading Erasmus School of Economics. Franses is very pleased that the School financially supports international students from outside the European Economic Area: ‘I am confident that this scholarship may further inspire Rama to bring out the best in himself. He is a very nice and talented student!’
