As of 1 March 2023, Prof. Pilar Garcia-Gomez has been appointed the new Director of the Department of Applied Economics at Erasmus School of Economics for a period of two years.
She succeeds Prof. Jan van Ours who was Director for four years. Due to earlier planned partial leave, some of Pilar’ tasks will temporarily and partly be taken over by her colleague, Deputy Director Dr Thomas Peeters, during the period mid-March until early-July.
Pilar Garcia-Gomez has worked in the Health Economics section in the department of Applied Economics at Erasmus School of Economics since 2008. In her position as Deputy Director of the department, Pilar has contributed among other things to advance on the policies focused on the wellbeing of early-career researchers, and the transparency and communication of the school to facilitate an environment that guarantees equal opportunities for all the staff members.
Patrick Groenen, Dean of Erasmus School of Economics, is happy that the school has found Pilar willing to succeed Jan van Ours as a director.
'Pilar is a very committed person to her colleagues, the department, and the school. On behalf of the Management Team, I can say that we look forward to working with her.’
