Professor René Repasi presented his report on 'Options for a Stronger Parliamentary Involvement in the Implementation of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the UK' in a webinar in the presence of Anna Cavazzini MEP (Chair of the European Parliament's Internal Market Committee) and Bernd Lange MEP (Chair of the European Parliament's Trade Committee).

The implementation and further development of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and the UK (also known as the Brexit deal) needs a stronger involvement of parliaments compared to previous trade agreements. This is because of the need for democratic legitimacy of the decisions taken by the agreement committees and, even more importantly, the implications for both parties regarding current and future regulatory developments due to the close trade relationships between the market operators on both sides of the Channel. Professor Repasi's proposals for strengthening parliamentary involvement and the comments by the Chair of the European Parliament's Trade Committee, Bernd Lange, can be watched by clicking on the video below.
