On Wednesday, 8 November 2023, Nobel Prize Laureate and Professor at Stanford University Guido Imbens received an honorary doctorate on the recommendation of Erasmus School of Economics. Imbens, who studied at Erasmus School of Economics, was also guest of honour during several other events as part of the 110th Dies Natalis of our university.

Rotterdam welcomes Nobel Prize laureate Guido Imbens at Flag Parade

On Monday, 6 November 2023, Nobel Prize laureate Guido Imbens was welcomed to Rotterdam with a symbolic flag-raising moment at the Flag Parade on the Boompjesboulevard along the Nieuwe Maas, between the De Boeg monument and the foot of the Erasmus Bridge.

EIPE Seminar

Prof. Guido Imbens (Professor of Applied Econometrics at Stanford, and Nobel Prize Winner in Economics 2021) lead the research seminar on Monday 6 November based at the Erasmus Institute of Philosophy and Economics at the Erasmus School of Philosophy.

On Tuesday 7 November, a few of our school’s talents got the change to present their research proposal to an audience including Prof. Guido Imbens.

Policy Afternoon with Prof. Guido Imbens

A day before the official celebration of the 110th anniversary of Erasmus University Rotterdam, a policy afternoon was organized for researchers and policymakers.

In 2021 Prof. Guido Imbens, Josh Angrist and David Card received the Nobel Prize in Economics for initiating a credibility revolution in empirical research. As a result of their contributions and the increasing availability of data we can now much better determine the effects of policies in education.

110th Dies Natalis

With the theme 'Making Minds Matter', the 110th anniversary of our university was celebrated extensively on 8 November 2023. Central to the ceremony was exploring new horizons for Erasmus University Rotterdam. The common thread in this was the great importance of interdisciplinarity, a good dose of guts and trust in each other.

On the evening of Wednesday 8 November, the Erasmus Bridge turned green for the 110th anniversary of our university.

Unveiling of the chess board

On Wednesday morning 8 November, Guido Imbens unveiled the life-size chess board on K.P. van der Mandeleplein. Among others were Dean Patrick Groenen, Rector Annelien Bredenoord and Prof. Dinand Webbink.
