Rogier Quaedvlieg and Matthijs Korevaar receive prize by Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities

On Friday 18 June 2021 at 4 p.m., Rogier Quaedvlieg and Matthijs Korevaar, both affiliated with Erasmus School of Economics, are presented a prize by Louise Gunning-Schepers, chair of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities. Rogier Quaedvlieg receives the J.C. Ruigrok Prize and Matthijs Korevaar the Van der Knaap Prize.

Rogier Quaedvlieg winner of the J.C. Ruigrok Prize

Financial economist Rogier Quaedvlieg, Associate Professor at Erasmus School of Economics, is presented the prestigious annual J.C. Ruigrok Prize. The J.C. Ruigrok Prize of 12,500 euro is an incentive for junior researchers, to reward original research in the field of social sciences. The award circulates between four research fields. Every four years a researcher in economics is selected as the winner.

Rogier Quaedvlieg obtained his PhD in Financial Econometrics in 2016 at Maastricht University. He obtained two master’s degrees at the same time, preceded by a double bachelor’s degree. Quaedvlieg has published, among others, in Econometrica (2020). He was awarded the Arnold Zellner Thesis Award in Econometrics & Statistics in 2017. In that same year he also obtained a prestigious NWO Veni grant. Quaedvlieg’ s research is focused on the topics of Financial Econometrics, Forecasting, Volatility, Risk Management and Time Series.

Previous J.C. Ruigrok Prize laureates of Erasmus School of Economics include professors Martijn de Jong (2009), Stefan Stremersch (2005) and Philip Hans Franses (1993).

Matthijs Korevaar to receive the Van der Knaap Prize

Assistant Professor of Finance at Erasmus School of Economics Matthijs Korevaar is presented the Van der Knaap Prize of 10,000 euro, for his original PhD research in the field of economic and social geography in the broadest sense, as well as in the field of urban and regional economy.

Matthijs Korevaar obtained his PhD in Finance from Maastricht University. In January 2022, he will join the Finance Division of Columbia Business School as Visiting Scholar and Marie-Sklodowka Curie Global Fellow, returning to Erasmus School of Economics in July 2023. His research interests are in finance, real estate and economic history. He exploits the long course of history to draw lessons relevant for modern financial markets, with a specific focus on the housing market.
