University celebrates centennial with voluntary work for Rotterdam

Jarige universiteit doet vrijwilligerswerk voor Rotterdam

On Friday 20 September 2013 at 10 am Erasmus University Executive Board president Pauline van der Meer Mohr and board member Bart Straatman will be setting a good example to promote the major volunteer project, Erasmus4Rotterdam. In entirely their own way they will be donating the first minutes of their community service. The boards of the student associations and organisations are joining in. In partnership with the Rotterdam voluntary work organisation they are helping out in various locations, playgrounds, children’s farms and with landscape maintenance, in Kralingen and Crooswijk. The Gift to the City currently comprises around forty projects and will continue throughout the 2013-2014 academic year.

Erasmus University’s centennial will be celebrated in many different ways during the 2013-2014 academic year, and also with rolled-up sleeves. Students and employees will be putting in an effort for the city on a voluntary basis. The project Erasmus4Rotterdam links up with the ‘IMPACT’ theme of the centennial celebrations. Erasmus4Rotterdam is the gift of Erasmus University to the residents of the city and will involve many thousands of hours of voluntary work throughout the year. EUR wants to demonstrate that the university is at the heart of society and works passionately for the community.

The many Rotterdam organisations for which EUR employees and students will be doing voluntary work include MasterPeace, Sinterklaasbank, Resto VanHarte, Stichting Lezen & Schrijven, Albeda College, UNICEF, Amnesty International, Poetry International, Marathon Rotterdam. The number of hours is submitted in advance and is validated by the organisation where the community service is performed.

Erasmus4Rotterdam is the gift to the city of the Executive Board and the student associations. As part of the centennial celebrations students and employees will be doing voluntary work in the city supplied by organisations in the community in Rotterdam
