Student Experience - Study Abroad

Study Abroad

Hi, my name is Alicia. I am a student in the bachelor programme Double Degree BSc² Econometrics and Economics. But… at this moment I am on an exchange in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
I have been here for almost 5 months now and I would have never expected that my expectations are met so much - I absolutely love it here! The first days in Yogyakarta were a little difficult, but as soon as the other exchange students arrived (I live with 11 others), all became much easier to handle and I am now completely used to everything here.

The university over here has a different approach to teaching than we do at Erasmus School of Economics. That is something to get used to, as the majority of all grades is composed of presentations and participation grades in small (mandatory-attendance) classes. My high school in Germany was a lot like that too, so to some extent I am used to it, yet it is quite an unusual experience to have this on university level. Further, both in university and daily life there is a lot of "uncertainty" and short notice planning- it looks students here are simply not as much into planning as I am used to. This is quite a learning experience for me as an always stressed student, but surely one of the reasons that I decided to go to Indonesia - so I am learning a lot.
