The mission of Stichting Droom en Daad is to make Rotterdam stronger and more beautiful through arts and culture. Our field is Rotterdam, which means that everything the foundation does is aimed to benefit the city and its people - today and in the future.
We want to make the city more liveable for its inhabitants, and more loveable for its visitors. We look at projects from a (not for profit) value investing point of view, long term impact and with a broad outreach.

The Droom en Daad foundation has been given the opportunity to acquire the Fenixloods II on Katendrecht, one of the former docks in Rotterdam. On the ground floor there will be a combination of cultural, culinary and creative facilities. On the first floor, Droom & Daad wants to tell the story of migrants. From 1872 onwards, the area around Katendrecht and the Wilhelminapier had developed into the location from which millions left the Old World in search of a better life, in the first place, via Ellis Island, in New York. The Stadsarchief, Maritiem Museum, Museum Rotterdam, Nederlands Fotomuseum and Wereldmuseum will corporate to realize a permanent exhibition on migration.

The Stichting will present their exhibition project, before a Q&A session. This will be followed by short pitches of research from EMDI members.

Opening address from ESSB Dean Prof. Dr. Victor Bekkers.
