Anouk Jorna wins Han Entzinger Award 2022

Anouk Jorna, graduated at the Masterprogramme Governance of Migration and Diversity (Public Administration track), was awarded the Han Entzinger Award for the best Master thesis on migration and diversity in 2022. In her research, Anouk looked at the issue of liminal legality among Latin American immigrants in Florida, and how this affected their migration aspirations in the future.

Prof. dr. Han Entzinger: “Anouk Jorna’s Master thesis on Latino migrants in Miami is excellent for a variety of reasons. It provides a very complete overview of existing literature, particularly on citizenship. The thesis is very systematic and highly transparent in its set-up. Anouk’s fieldwork among a hard-to-reach community of often undocumented workers is really professional, while the outcomes of her research are extremely interesting. All these things taken together make this Master thesis a great contribution to the field of migration studies. She truly deserves this year’s award.”

About The Han Entzinger Best Migration Master Thesis Award

Prof. dr. Han Entzinger has been one of the pioneers of migration research at Erasmus University Rotterdam as well as in The Netherlands and Europe more in general. At Erasmus University, he not only spurred the development of interdisciplinary research on migration and diversities, but also the increased attention to these themes within education. At a European scale, Han Entzinger was one of the pioneers of European networks for collaboration on migration studies (IMISCOE) and for the development of more comparative research. The Han Entzinger Best Migration Master Thesis Award is there to mark and keep alive this legacy of his work.

The jury consisted of Prof. dr. Peter Scholten, Prof. dr. Susanne Janssen, and Dr. Nanneke Winters, chaired by Prof. dr. Han Entzinger.

Anouk wrote her thesis under the supervision of dr. Fiona-Katharina Seiger and dr. Asya Pisarevskaya. On the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus GMD website an article on the prize winner was published recently.
