dr. S (Sofia) Ntaliou, MSc

Biography

Sofia Ntaliou is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Public Administration and Sociology, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and a member of the Policy, Politics and Society group. An urban geographer with a background in urban planning and social justice, she is motivated by a desire to understand how cities respond to migration and to the needs of undocumented and underdocumented residents. She holds a PhD from University College Dublin, where she compared how Athens and Dublin govern migration, as well as degrees from the University of Amsterdam and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has also worked as a researcher for humanitarian organisations. Her current project, ANCHOR – Urban Anchors of Local Citizenship: Political Will and the Governance of Migration in Europe – is funded by the European Commission. It examines how urban citizenship is cultivated, sustained or dismantled in large and medium-sized cities in Greece and the Netherlands, approaching political will as an urban infrastructure.
