dr. (Anthony) A Cooper

Biography

I am a lecturer in Social Science at the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and teach within the Political Science and International Politics Major at Erasmus University College.

My principal area of expertise falls at the intersection of Political Geography, International Relations and International Political Sociology. Across these areas, my research focuses on political bordering (and associated concepts) broadly put, with particular attention given to how mainstream representations of borders have come to be accepted or contested within contemporary society, and the implications this has on international politics. Implicit to this is the question of ‘who borders’, and the multiple ways in which citizens/non-citizens make and re-make borders from a bottom-up/grass roots perspective. I am currently writing about mainstream understandings of contemporary political borders in an age of rapid anthropocentric climate change.

At EUC, I teach courses on Undertanding Politics, International Relations, Conflict Resolution, and Global Governance, as well as qualitative research methods and academic research skills.
