The Erasmus Data Service Centre (EDSC) was founded in 2006 by the University Library, together with the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). It began as a hub for financial data, created to support the rising demand for quantitative research. Over time, our services have expanded (sometimes to other fields). But supporting financial data remains at the heart of what we do.
Our mission is to deliver high-quality data support for researchers, educators, and students — in close cooperation with ESE, ESSB, RSM, the Tinbergen Institute, and the University Library.
Our Team
The EDSC is powered by a dedicated team of data specialists:
- Arjan de Wit;
- Paul Plaatsman;
- Rob Grim;
- Ronald Brabers.
They bring a wide range of expertise to support the university community in working with complex data sources.
Advisory Board
The EDSC is supported by an advisory board composed of academic experts from across the university:
- Dr. Vadym Volosovych (ESE);
- Dr. Maria Grith (ESE);
- Dr. Dion Bongaerts (RSM);
- Dr. Richard Haans (RSM);
- Dr. Caspar David Peter (RSM);
- Dr. Asya Pisarevskaya (ESSB).
Their insights help shape the strategic direction and service development of the EDSC.
Our Network
The EDSC is actively involved in several collaborative networks:
- Local: Together with the Erasmus Centre for Data Analytics (ECDA), we form the Erasmus Data Collaboratory, located on the first floor of the Polak Building.
- Regional: We maintain strong ties with colleagues at Leiden, Delft, and Erasmus (LDE).
- National: EDSC staff are members of DebWEB, the Dutch network of economics and business librarians, and serve as EUR ambassadors for SURF.
- International: Since 2019, EDSC has been part of the ZBW network.
