Franses: 'Stand economie na drie jaar terug te zien in roklengte'

Zo wordt op de website van Yahoo 7 Finance het volgende geschreven over het onderzoek: 'While many believe the theory is nothing more than a myth, Professor Philip Hans Franses, Dean of the Erasmus School of Economics in the Netherlands isn’t so flippant. His research with Marjolein van Baardwijk has found that it’s not fashion that can be used to predict the economy, but vice versa. “It is the other way around. The current state of the economy has predictive value for the future hemlines,” Professor Franses told Yahoo7 Finance.' 

Eerder werd het onderzoek al aangehaald in o.a. het Spaanse dagblad El Mundo.
“Franses and Baardwijk couldn’t find any evidence that hemlines predict economic performance, but they did find that economics predicts hemlines with a three-year to four-year delay. Which is to say, about three years after the economy goes into a recession, hemlines plunge toward the ankle.” Aldus El Mundo. 

In een interview met BBC World Services zegt Franses het volgende:
 “Economy today predicts hemlines in the next three to four years from now and not the other way around. Therefore we should not be sneaking upon models at London or New York Fashion Week with our take measures just to see how their hemlines are looking like. Current hemlines have no predictive value but current economy has.” Aldus Franses.
