On August 27, 2015, Department director Patrick Groenen presented the Umbra Erasmi medal to assistant professor Alex Koning for his 25 years of employment in the Econometric Institute of Erasmus School of Economics. Alex Koning was praised for his enthusiasm as a lecturer.
Groenen: ‘Alex finds it stimulating to teach new courses and by colleagues he is appreciated for his broad knowledge in the field.’
The medal, which was introduced by the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1988, is granted as a token of appreciation and/or recognition to persons who are 25 years in the service.
On the back of this medal is the text UMBRA ERASMI ERASMUS UNIVERSITEIT ROTTERDAM. Erasmus used the words "Shadow of Erasmus" in 1520 referring to his portrait medal.
