Requirements for participating in online education and online exams

In September you will start your studies at Erasmus School of Economics. When health measures allow, education will be offered on campus as much as possible. However, all courses and examinations will remain available online. To be able to follow courses online and take online exams, you will need the following:

  • A laptop with webcam, charger, microphone and speaker
  • For online proctored exams only: A mobile phone or tablet (minimum Android 5.1 or iOS 10.0) with camera, a charger and the Proctor Exam app installed
  • A good internet connection with minimal 1.5Mbit/s upload, 10Mbit/s download and a ping under 25ms. If you Google 'internet speed test' you can check if your internet connection is fast enough
  • Chrome web browser. Available as a free download in most countries
  • A comfortable and quiet place where you can study and make your examinations

Besides these ‘need-to-haves’ our lecturers have made a list of recommendations:

  • Processor: Intel i3/i5/i7/i9 of AMD Ryzen
  • RAM: minimal 8GB, for senior students 16GB is advised
  • Hard drive: minimal 256GB or 512GB if you need more space
  • Master students Econometrics who will work on Deep Learning or Neural Networks are advised a NVIDIA GPU
  • Operating system: Windows
    (this works best with statistical and optimization software)

If it is not possible for you to organize these facilities at home, you can use the facilities on campus free of charge. Due to Corona restrictions, please keep in mind that availability is limited.

At home, after you have received your ERNA ID, you can use:

  • eduVPN for a secure internet connection
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Free software for your studies, such as Atlas.ti, STATA, Scientific Workplace and SURFdrive
