Xiaoxue Cao and Stelios Giannikis are the first students who have obtained a master’s degree in Economics and Business, with the specialisation Data Science & Marketing Analytics. On Wednesday 21 August 2019, they both successfully defended their own thesis.

Erasmus School of Economics introduced the master specialisation in 2018. Students focus on the tools and skills that are needed to analyse data in modern businesses and to turn them into meaningful insights that can be used to generate business value. In particular, Data Science & Marketing Analytics combines theory and practice from computer science, machine learning, marketing, economics, and statistics, in such a way that the potential of big data can be exploited successfully to create greater value for consumers and firms.

Stelios Giannikis gained wonderful experiences in the past year at Erasmus School of Economics: ‘The Data Science & Marketing Analytics specialisation showed me how to combine data science with the business world.’ Xiaoxue Cao agrees with her fellow student: ‘Studying Data Science has been an immensely rewarding experience and prepared me for a career in a highly exciting and riveting field.’
