Remy Spliet appointed Professor of Operations Research & Transport at Erasmus School of Economics

Dr Remy Spliet has been appointed Professor of Operations Research & Transport at Erasmus School of Economics with effect from 1 December 2025. The appointment represents an important boost to teaching and research in the field of Operations Research within the School.

Renowned for research on vehicle routing and last-mile logistics

With the establishment of this new chair, Erasmus School of Economics further strengthens its position in the areas of transport, logistics, optimisation and data-driven decision-making. Spliet, who has served as Associate Professor since 2017, has a strong international profile and has published extensively in leading academic journals. His research focuses on, among other topics, vehicle routing, last-mile logistics, stochastic optimisation and the use of machine learning in planning models.

Clear vision and strong links to practice

The Appointment Advisory Committee highlights Spliet’s ability to connect fundamental and applied research. His close collaboration with industry partners, including Albert Heijn, Ortec has resulted in various planning and optimisation tools now used in practice and had a broad societal impact.

Key role in educational and research innovation

As Professor, Spliet will play a prominent role in the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in Econometrics & Management Science. He is also be responsible for supervising PhD candidates and strengthening the Operations Research research group. In doing so, he aims to foster new research collaborations, including in the areas of energy optimisation and urban logistics.

Broad international recognition

Dean Patrick Groenen describes Remy Spliet as a leader who will further enhance the reputation and impact of the field. International experts from Canada and the United States likewise regard him as one of the leading researchers in stochastic vehicle routing. With his appointment, Spliet succeeds Emeritus Professor Rommert Dekker, ensuring continuity in teaching and research within Operations Research.
