Library card

You can borrow books with a valid EUR student card or library card. Find out if you are entitled to a free library card and how you can apply for one in the summary below.

The EUR (digital) student card is also your library card. The borrower details are:

The amount of books you can borrow as EUR student are:

  • UL: 50 books maximum
  • ISS: 50 books maximum
  • RLK: 50 books maximum

You can apply for a free library card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library on presentation of a valid ID.

  • UL: 50 books maximum
  • ISS: 50 books maximum
  • RLK: 50 books maximum

If you are an employee at Erasmus MC you can borrow books from the library free of charge. To do this, first create an account in sEURch, the library’s search system. Read how to do this on the Medical Library website.

Then apply for a library card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library and bring a valid ID.

The amount of books you can borrow as Erasmus MC staff are:

  • UL: 50 books maximum
  • ISS: 50 books maximum
  • RLK: 50 books maximum

You can apply for a library card at the Alumni Office or the ISS Alumni Office. The library card costs € 15.00 and is valid for one year. Based on personal information provided by the Alumni Office, the library makes a library card for you and notifies you via e-mail when your card is ready. 
After payment (through iDEAL), you can collect your card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library on presentation of a valid ID.

Attention: the library card doesn't offer access to the Library's digital collection. See: Services for visitors.

The amount of books you can borrow as alumni are:

  • UL: 10 books maximum
  • ISS: 10 books maximum
  • RLK: 10 books maximum

Your university contact person will apply for your free library card and will send the following information (of you as a guest) to the library through the online form of the University Library or the ISS Library:

  • Surname and initials;
  • Faculty;
  • Department or capacity group;
  • Room number;
  • Telephone number;
  • Period of guest stay or temporary guest employment at EUR.

You will be notified by e-mail when your library card is ready. You can collect the library card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library on presentation of a valid ID.

Note: If you have a hospitality agreement “EUR Staff” rules apply.

  • UL: 50 books maximum
  • ISS: 50 books maximum
  • RLK: 50 books maximum

Students and employees of Rotterdam University (HR) and The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) can apply for a library card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library or through the online form of the University Library or the ISS Library. This card costs € 15,00 and is valid for one year. 

Bring the following:

  • Valid ID;
  • Only for students: valid student card / proof of enrolment;
  • Only for employees: proof of employment at the HR and THUAS (e.g. a recent bank slip showing your address information and confirms that you are employed at the
  • HR or THUAS).

  • UL: 50 books maximum
  • ISS: 50 books maximum
  • RLK: 50 books maximum

If you are a student or employee from one of the below mentioned universities, you can borrow books from the library free of charge:

Open University Netherlands - University of Amsterdam - Delft University of Technology - University of Groningen - University of Leiden - University of Utrecht - Tilburg University - Radboud University Nijmegen - Maastricht University - Eindhoven University of Technology - University of Twente - VU University Amsterdam - Wageningen University.

Apply for a card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library or through the online form of the University Library or the ISS Library and bring the following: 

  • Valid ID;
  • Only for students: valid student card / proof of enrolment;
  • Only for employees: proof of employment at another university (e.g. a recent salary slip that shows your address information and confirms that you are employed at this university).

The amount of books you can borrow as student/staff of another university are:

  • UL: 50 books maximum
  • ISS: 50 books maximum
  • RLK: 50 books maximum

As a private individual, you can apply for a library card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library or through the online form of the University Library and Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet or the ISS Library

With both library cards you receive a discount/entrance for two people during special activities of the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet.

A library card is valid for one year. You can collect the card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library on presentation of a valid ID.

Please note:

  • Apply for a library card, pick up your card or renew your membership at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library on working days. Check the opening hours

Loss or theft

Directly report loss or theft of your library or student card at the information desk in the University Library or at the Services Desk in the ISS Library or through the online form of the University Library or the ISS Library

Until this is reported, you as a borrower will be responsible for all publications borrowed with the student card or library card. Replacing your library card costs € 2,50. Apply at the Erasmus Student Service Centre for the replacement of your student card. At ISS apply for this at the Student Office.
