dr. PK (Peter) Marks

Biography

Dr.dr. Peter Marks is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam, affiliated with the Governance & Pluralism group. He studied economics and philosophy of economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam and holds two PhDs: one on an alternative explanatory model within game theory, and one developing a complex-systems-informed fitness landscape perspective on collective decision-making, using the decision-making process surrounding the Dutch High-Speed Rail line as its central case. This work is set out in Understanding Collective Decision-Making: A Fitness Landscape Approach (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2017).

His research applies complexity science and evolutionary theory to longitudinal collective decision-making in public administration. Since 2015 he has applied group model building and, more recently, activity systems modelling to help community initiatives and municipal governments diagnose the systemic dynamics behind policy issues, with case studies in the municipalities of Rotterdam, Woerden, Arnhem, Ridderkerk, Albrandswaard, and the Alblasserwaard region.
