Generative AI is increasingly used by students and educators, both inside and outside the classroom. AI tools can support learning, feedback, content creation, and course design, while also creating new challenges related to assessment, academic integrity, transparency, and critical thinking. At the same time, GenAI has important limitations. It can generate inaccurate information, reproduce bias, and create privacy or copyright concerns when used without appropriate safeguards.
What will you learn?
The e-module introduces lecturers and teaching assistants to the responsible use of GenAI in higher education. After completing this approximately 60 minute e-module, you will be able to:
- Explain what Generative AI is and understand its capabilities and limitations.
- Recognise ethical considerations related to GenAI, including bias, privacy, transparency, and academic integrity.
- Evaluate how GenAI may influence course design and learning activities.
- Assess the impact of GenAI on assessment and identify appropriate adaptations where necessary.
- Support students in using GenAI responsibly and effectively.
- Apply basic prompting techniques to educational tasks.
