Immigration procedures

Most international students with a non-EU/EEA nationality, studying in the Netherlands for more than 90 days, are obliged to apply for an entry visa and/or Dutch residence permit. Find out which procedure applies to you.

Application deadline: 10 July 2024

For students who start their studies in September 2024, the immigration procedure will start on 1 April 2024. It is not possible to start an application before that time*.

The deadline to submit your immigration application is 10 July 2024 (05.00 Dutch time!). This deadline is strict, so we advise you to start with your application as soon as you have received the instructions from our university on how to start your immigration procedure. These instructions will be sent to you via e-mail within 2 weeks.

* This only applies to prospective students starting their studies in September 2024. Current students who require a (new) immigration application can contact to Erasmus School of Economics Immigration Officer via our contact form.

Financial aspects

The immigration procedure consists of filling in several forms, as well as completing a bank transfer covering tuition fee, a deposit for the cost of living and the handling fee of the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). This proof of financial means is required to demonstrate the IND that you have sufficient financial means to fund your studies and to live in the Netherlands.

Valid Dutch residence permit?

If you are a student with a non-EU/EEA nationality and you already have a valid Dutch residence permit, you are exempted from starting a new immigration procedure.
