Most international students with a non-EU/EEA nationality*, studying in the Netherlands for more than 90 days, are obliged to apply for an entry visa and/or Dutch residence permit. Find out which procedure applies to you.
Application deadline: 15 October 2020
For nominated exchange students who start their studies in January 2020, the immigration procedure will start on 1 October 2020. It is not possible to start the application before that time. The deadline to complete the immigration application is 15 October 2020. This deadline is strict, so we advise you to start with your application as soon as you have received the instructions from our university on how to start your immigration procedure.
For students who started their studies through online education on 31 August, the deadline to complete the immigration application is 15 October 2020, in order to be able to travel to the Netherlands before the start of block 3 (4 January 2021).
The immigration procedure consists of filling in several forms, as well as completing a bank transfer covering tuition fee, a deposit for the cost of living and the handling fee of the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). This proof of financial means is required to demonstrate the IND that you have sufficient financial means to fund your studies and to live in the Netherlands.
The cost of living is set at a minimum amount of €900 per month. As an example, if you will be an exchange student at Erasmus School of Economics for Block 3&4 (a study period of 4 months), your cost of living would be €3600 (€900 x 4).
Bachelor/(pre-)master students who started with online education, only have to transfer the cost of living of the remaining months. For example, if you arrive in January, you will be in the Netherlands for 8 months, times €900 = €7.200 deposit for the cost of living.
* If you are a student with a non-EU/EEA nationality and you already have a valid Dutch residence permit, you are exempted from starting a new immigration procedure. Please do supply us with a PDF-scan of the front and back of your permit card.
