Moniek Buijzen appointed as Fellow of the International Communication Association

Last Saturday, Prof. Moniek Buijzen was named a Fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA). With the appointment, the society recognises Buijzen's contribution to academic knowledge on communication and media, particularly her work on youth communication and how digital media can contribute to youth wellbeing.

With the appointment as Fellow, Buijzen officially belongs to the top of international communication science "I am incredibly honoured to be included in this illustrious group. In recent years, I have enjoyed researching youth communication and the use of digital media in health interventions. It motivates me to see that this has not escaped my peers."

Knowledge into practice

A characteristic of ICA fellows is that they put their knowledge into practice in society and education. Buijzen, for example, founded, together with ESSB colleague Dr. Esther Rozendaal the website Bitescience. The website helps communication professionals translate scientific knowledge into their own practice. Buijzen: "Bitescience enables professionals to really get to work with communication science research. Ultimately, of course, that is what you want as a field. That our findings also have an impact on society."
