Jennifer A. Holland is Assistant Professor of Work at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Jennifer A. Holland joined the Faculty of Social Sciences at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2017. She is an affiliate of the ESRC Research Centre for Population Change (CPC) at the University of Southampton (UK) and an International Collaborator with the Linnaeus Center on Social Policy and Family Dynamics in Europe (Stockholm University) and the Stockholm University SIMSAM Node for Demographic Research.

Previously, Jennifer was a Lecturer in Social Statistics and Demography at the University of Southampton (UK) and a researcher at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) in The Hague. She received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA) in 2011.

Jennifer’s research investigates the social and economic consequences of family change for individuals and societies in the Europe and the United States. She is currently involved in two ongoing research projects. The first, “Family Complexity and Cohabitation in Comparative Context,” investigates how the emergence of cohabitation is linked to family complexity and well-being (Swedish Research Council; 2015 – 2018). The second, “The Family Lives of Children of Immigrants in Norway,” explores stability and change in the family life courses of immigrants and their descendants in Norway and Sweden (Research Council of Norway; 2016 – 2019).

Jennifer’s work has been published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, Population Studies, Population and Development Review, European Journal of Population, Demographic Research and Advances in Life Course Research. She is an editorial board member of the Journal of Marriage and Family.

Jennifer teaches courses in the sociology of work, empirical sociology and quantitative methods at the Bachelors and Masters levels.
