Profile
Paul Bose is a PhD candidate at the Erasmus School of Economics. Since Sep. 2018 he works on his PhD project entitled “Essays in Applied Political Economy”. The project focuses on a number of questions in the study of elections and political selection. In particular, the project tries to answer how different political environments, institutions and incentives affect the selection of politicians and their performance in office. Important questions relate to how incentives to potential candidates (electoral competition, financial returns from holding office) affect their decision to enter the race and constrain them in office, what role parties play in the selection of candidates and a politician’s performance after being elected as well as how information and electoral institutions shape voters’ choices.
